Hot Metal Cold Beer: Aluminum Bowls and Plates
Hot Metal Cold Beer is part foundry experience, part happy hour, and part behind-the-scenes look at one of Durham's most unique art spaces. Create your own casting pattern, then watch Liberty Arts' foundry crew transform it into solid aluminum during a live foundry pour.
While the metal is flowing, use your included drink token at Glass Jug Beer Lab for a beer, cider, soda, or other non-alcoholic beverage, browse our pop-up market featuring Liberty Arts artists, and experience the glow and energy of a working foundry.
Whether it's date night, a night out with friends, or just an excuse to do something completely different, Hot Metal Cold Beer brings together molten metal, local art, cold drinks, and hands-on creativity.
September's Featured Casting: Bowls, Plates & Cups
This September, choose from a selection of cast aluminum bowls, plates, and cups in different sizes. You'll customize the surface of your piece before watching it make its way to the foundry floor and become a one-of-a-kind aluminum casting.
Choose your piece when purchasing your ticket:
Small Plate — $85
Small Bowl — $100
Large Plate — $120
Large Bowl — $150
A Little Note About Your Tableware
These pieces may look like tableware, but they're made for showing off—not supper! Finished castings are decorative and are not food-grade or intended for eating, drinking, or serving food.
Use yours as a funky jewelry holder, an oddities display, a catch-all for treasures, a commemorative wall piece, or park it by the front door as the official landing zone for the keys you swear you're going to start hanging up one of these days. Or simply let it be what it is—a one-of-a-kind piece of cast aluminum art.
Picking Up Your Piece
Your casting will need a little finishing work after the pour, so it won't go home with you that evening. Finished pieces will be available for pickup beginning the Thursday following the event at the Liberty Arts studio:
