Intermediate Jewelry Making, Traditional Prong Setting 101

This is an intermediate jewelry class, it is required that student have outside jewelry experience or have taken a least 2 intro courses with me before they sign up for class! If students have questions about this they can contact me before signing up-- hewjewelry@gmail.com

In this segment of intermediate jewelry making, students will learn how to fabricate a traditional prong setting for a faceted stone from start to finish. This is a more in depth and comprehensive setting class than my intro found object setting class. Brass, copper, and practice stones are included in the material fee of $20, paid directly to instructor upon arrival. If students would prefer to work in silver, they can pay a class fee of $15 and purchase the silver directly from the instructor during class.

Techniques we will be learning:

-which tools to use

-how to use the flex shaft to carve out a setting

-common mistakes made

-how to fix a setting that has gone wrong

-Finishing and polishing with the flex shaft

(btw Nanette’s studio has both AC + heat depending on the season!)
