Iron Poursquare Workshop for the 9TH ANNUAL IRON POUR

Carve a modern heirloom (scratch block) to be cast by fire during the 9th Annual Liberty Arts Iron Pour in Durham Central Park on November 15th!
You will receive 1 single 6” x 6” blank tile mold (a block of resin-bonded sand; “scratch block”) into which you can carve any shallow-relief design you wish. On average the scratch blocks take about an hour to carve, depending on your design. There is no experience necessary, nor any need to bring your own safety gear. We will provide instruction, safety gear, tools, and materials in this workshop, after which you will leave your mold with the Liberty Arts team until the Iron Pour event on November 15th. Cost per individual is $50. Multiple scratch blocks will require multiple registrations, as we must keep track of each block. You can use the same name for each if you wish.
This class will be held at 918 Pearl Street at Liberty Arts.
THE IRON POUR: Visit the homepage!
On the evening of November 15th, Liberty Arts will cast your molds in iron for you to take home the following day. The 9th Annual Iron Pour in Durham Central Park will have live music, local craft beer, a slate of food trucks, performances, and — of course — molten cast iron! The Pour is an entirely public event, free to attend, so please come and enjoy!
Students will be required to document their molds, by taking a picture of your design, to help the pickup process go more smoothly for both the artists and our volunteers.
PICKUP DATES for the finished iron poursquares are at the Watts Hill Pavilion/Liberty Arts Foundry in Durham Central Park:
- Sunday, November 16th, from 1–4pm
- Monday, November 17th, from 5–7pm
- Sunday, November 23rd, from 12–3pm
All unclaimed iron poursquares will be discarded/repurposed after Sunday, November 23rd, 2025. If you can't pick up during the above times, please arrange a friend or family member to pick it up for you. We can't wait to see what YOU make!
