The 2 Piece Spoon, 5 Hours, $250
The spoons one of man or woman’s oldest utensils. Over time it has been made from bone, stones wood, metal, plastic and many other materials. It’s scope is expansive. Metal spoons can be made from either a single piece or multiple pieces soldered or otherwise joined together. This class will deal with the later, the 2 piece spoon. The first session will deal with bowl and handle formation as well as mechanical joints. Students will make a silver spoon during the second session.
The class is limited to one student and is conducted over 2 days or evenings (2.5 hours each session) or 5 hours during a single daytime session. Instruction will be by the “discuss, demo, do” approach. If the time listed is not convenient for you please contact the instructor at jimcohenjudaica@gmail.com to discuss alternative times.
Materials fee, $60.00 (paid directly to the instructor) includes copper for practice and sterling silver for making a 4-5” “silver spoon” as well as studio supplies. Classes are conducted in a heated classroom. Note: Some students have elected to make a larger, more complex spoon than one envisioned in the syllabus. If so before beginning the silver spoon portion of the class, additional instruction ($50/hr) and material costs (TBD) will be discussed and agreed to by both parties.
