Liberty Arts and the Bull City Woodshop are collaborating to offer this two part workshop that takes place at both organization locations, with a lunch featured in between!

Then students will head to Liberty Arts and learn to make their own blown glass pumpkin to sit on their pedestal! Get your perfect decor for the fall and learn two incredible art forms!

Workshop Schedule:

8:30AM to 12:30PM : Bull City Woodshop - Pedestal Turning @ 1912 E Pettigrew St

12:30PM to 1:30PM : Lunch at Sofia’s Pizza @ 2201 Angier Ave

1:30PM to 3:00PM : Liberty Arts - Glass Blowing @ 918 Pearl Street

Pedestal Turning:

No woodturning experience necessary! With instruction from experienced woodturners, enjoy learning the basics of woodturning to create your own unique pedestal to show off your beautiful glass pumpkin. Your pedestal will be made up of a variety of woods including poplar, walnut, maple, or oak. Using a lathe and a variety of woodturning gouges, you will be led step-by-step to carve your own unique design for your pedestal. Learn the process of sanding and applying a finish to your final product. All safety equipment and project supplies will be provided for you. Please arrive in closed-toed shoes, clothes that can get dirty, and any loose hair/loose clothing pulled back.

Make Your Own Glass Pumpkin:

Working with an experienced glass blower, the student will learn "hands-on" how to apply different colors to molten glass, how to shape the semi-molten form and finally to inflate the glass into a pumpkin shape.

The pumpkin consists of 2 parts-- the pumpkin body and its curly-Q stem. The student will take part in making both. After the pumpkin is shaped and its stem applied, it will be placed in our annealer where it will be slowly cooled down to room temperature and will be ready for pickup starting the following Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, from 5pm to 9pm.

Each student MUST be able to show proof of full Covid vaccination. Blow pipes will be sterilized between each use.

Also, students should not wear loose-fitting clothes nor clothes made of synthetic fabric (these melt easily).

Age Limit - 14 years old, minimum.
