Scratch Block Workshop (11/11)
Carve your own design in sand to create a tile mold (scratch block) to be cast in iron during the 2nd Annual Iron Pour in Durham Central Park on November 18th!
What will I receive?
You will receive 1 single 6” x 6” blank tile mold (a block of resin-bonded sand; “scratch block”) into which you can carve any shallow-relief design you so wish.
Do I need experience?
No experience necessary.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just bring yourself! No need to bring your own safety gear. We will provide instruction, safety gear, tools, and materials in this workshop, after which you will leave your mold with the Liberty Arts team until the Iron Pour event on November 18th. Cost per individual is $30.
When can I pick up my iron sculpture once it’s cooled down?
PICKUP for the finished iron cast tiles is scheduled for Sunday November 19th between 10 am and 12 pm. If you can not make that pickup time, please let us know in advance to make arrangements.
The Iron Pour:
On the evening of November 18th, Liberty Arts will cast your molds in iron for you to take home the following day. The 2nd Annual Iron Pour in Durham Central Park will have live music, a DJ, local craft beer, a slate of food trucks, performances, and - of course - molten cast iron! The Pour is an entirely public event, so please come and enjoy!
