Aluminum Scratchblock Workshop at Josh's Hope Foundation
Join us for this exciting event! We've teamed up with our partner Josh's Hope Foundation, located on several acres of beautiful land in Northern Durham, to bring you this one-of-a-kind event! Create a scratch block and enjoy exclusive access to watch molten aluminum poured into the sand scratch block mold you created. We will have lots of Liberty Artists & friends of Liberty Arts selling their artwork & handmade goods, food, refreshments, music and more!
About Josh's Hope Foundation:
The event begins at 11 am at Josh's Hope Foundation, 40 Terry Brook Lane, Hillsborough. You will have from 1:30 to 3:30 pm to work on your scratch blocks. The first aluminum pour will commence shortly after 1:30 pm.
What’s a scratch block? Glad you asked! It’s a 6x6” square block of hardened sand, with a 1/2” deep indentation. You scratch and carve a design, creating a pattern. We then pour molten aluminum into it and about 30 minutes later your aluminum relief tile is ready to take home.
Come with a specific design in mind or just arrive and wing it; we’ve seen both approaches work beautifully. We have all the tools and instruction you’ll need for fun and success.
