Pipe Making 101
Make your very own briar pipe with artisan pipe maker David S. Huber. David is excited to spend a day sharing his passion and knowledge, teaching registrants how to design and craft a hand-made pipe from start to finish.
This day long experience is intended for all skill levels in pipe making, from those who have just discovered that pipe making exists to craftspeople with several years of experience. No matter your experience level, you will have a great time and leave with an exciting piece of art that will surprise and intrigue your family and friends!
Registrants will spend a full day working with David in his workshop at Liberty Arts. Included in the price of the class are a pre-drilled briar block (provided by Vermont Freehand), a pre-formed ebonite mouthpiece (provided by BriarWorks, USA), and access to David’s spacious and modern workshop, custom designed for making hand-made pipes.
- Under David’s experienced guidance, registrants will
I. Design their pipe
II. Shape their pipe
III. Get experience sandblasting with a state of the art, custom sandblasting system
IV. Refine the mouthpiece for their pipe
V. Bend the mouthpiece for their pipe
VI. Apply stain and finishing products to their pipe
VII. Buff their pipe and the mouthpiece
VIII. Leave with a complete pipe, created by their own hands
Class begins at 9 am and ends when all pipes are complete, no later than 4 pm.
