Carving and Casting Wax to Silver and Bronze: Lost Wax Vacuum Casting

Carving and Casting Wax to Silver and Bronze

During this weekend intensive class, you will learn the ancient process of lost wax casting jewelry and small sculpture! Experimenting with different types of hard and soft wax block and wire, you will carve, shape and mold a piece of art.

During the first day of class you will learn how to use a variety of wax carving, shaping and melting tools to create a piece of jewelry or small sculpture. This wax will be prepared for casting.

Your wax creation will be invested and burnt out in a kiln overnight. On the second day of class you will melt and pour molten metal to cast your piece. After learning how to clean and desprue your work, finishing techniques will be taught using the jewelry tools in the studio. All tools and materials are provided in the studio.

Extra metal will be available for purchase if your piece will cast at more than a half ounce of silver. Bronze is also available to cast larger pieces. No jewelry experience required.

Minimum of 3 students and maximum of 6 students. $25 material fee paid to instructor due at beginning of class. After taking this class or if you have similar casting experience, you will be able to use the studio during open casting hours.
